Genomic sequencing is an incredibly important & specialised field. Fundamental in pushing forward disease prevention and public health outcomes.
High Training, High Costs
Traditionally, executing genomics pipelines require technical SQL and Computer Programming expertise. That’s an intensive, complex and expensive process to set up and run.
My Role
Building off the original MVP with a new team, we expanded the capabilities of Easy Genomics. Allowing for easier management of lab members and dealing with the large quantities of data required.
Missing Threads
Picking up a project spearheaded by another team had its own set of challenges. The previous designs had incomplete or cut features and didn’t have any formal structure

All of these older design threads were pulled apart, redesigned and reunified into a singular experience. Consulting with the original development team, these design desicions were codified into an easy to read Permissions Matrix.
Expanding Role Management

These new roles allow organisations to manage their genomics data securely. Additionally, it opened Easy genomics up to create templated Workflows for the lab assistants

Avoiding Costly Errors
Lab Managers to defining templated workflows for their lab assistants lowers the risk of errors in each test.
The genomic sequencing can contain multiple files can be over 50gbs each, taking hours to compute. Even a single failed test from an input error could cost hundreds of dollars. These small changes helped save labs thousands of dollars each quarter by avoiding these errors.

Shoutouts
Product Design Team
Thanks to the original product designer Phil Lauricella for the first MVP release of Easy Genomics. Fernando Tan who was responsible for support & maintenance and Nicholas Rivas for picking up the project after my stewardship.
Easy Genomics Team
Chie Nakagwa
Senior Delivery Lead
Chie was imperitive to maintaining the product vision. She was as much a Product Owner while keeping the project on track.
Zig Tan
Lead Software Engineer
Spent countless hours understanding and working towards the Easy Genomics project. This project wouldn’t be here without his guidance
Development & Quality Engineering Team
To all the developers that have worked on the project over the years. Alex van der Werff, Andrew Purcell, Marvin Umali, Simon Dib, Will Holt & Shaun Proctor
